THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: As low pressure over the Bay of Bengal intensifies, monsoon rain has strengthened in Kerala causing heavy rain in the northern districts. Landslides have been reported from various places in Kannur as part of the intensifying rain.

The meteorological department has issued Red alerts in Idukki, Malappuram and Kozhikode districts, while an orange alert has been issued for 6 other districts. It has also announced that Idukki, Malappuram and Kozhikode districts will be receiving heavy rains which may result in landslides and other casualties. Around 32 families have been moved to relief camps in Kozhikode district as several rivers in the district have started overflowing. A warning has been issued towards those living in landslide-prone areas by the Disaster management authority.

Meanwhile, landslides have been reported from Adakkathod and Brahmagiri in Kannur district. According to reports, there are no casualties and the authorities are taking every step to make sure that situations do not worsen. Several areas in the district have received heavy rain and many bridges have reportedly gone under water due to the overflowing of Iritty river. Authorities made it clear that 7 families have been moved to relief camps. The conditions in Idukki and Wayanad districts are also believed to be same as several families have been moved due to intensifying rains. 2 houses were completely destroyed in Wayanad. The strong rains have even resulted in delaying of trains as several trees have fallen over the tracks.
