KOCHI: Sister Lucy Kalappura, who was expelled from Franciscan Clarist congregation, has lashed out against it saying that she was isolated for protesting against rape-accused Bishop Franco Mulakkal. It was the General council of the congregation that decided to expel her citing indiscipline.

According to Lucy Kalappura, the authorities at the convent has been rude to her ever since the protest. She was denied food at the convent and hence had to depend on the food provided at the school. There were several attempts to torture her mentally and physically. Even several new nuns were asked not to talk to her.

Lucy also denied the accusations against her and stated that they are baseless. "Apart from the fact that I have a car, none of the accusations are true. Though it is true that I have not paid the salary, it does not mean that I have used that money for my personal needs. I will hand over the money once the issues get sorted. They are ill-treating me just because of the fact that I supported the protest against the rape accused Bishop."

She also added that she will move legally against the expulsion. "I will not leave the congregation and would fight them legally." She further alleged that the authorities forced her to sign the order asking here to leave the convent.
