THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Deaths have been reported from various places in the state following heavy rains battering the state. One and a half year old baby girl died in Idukki after earth caved in. The baby has been identified as Nityashree, daughter of Rajashekaran and Nitya of Chinnakanal in Idukki. The baby was taken out after removing the earth using a JCB.

Landslides occurred more in hilly regions. With this, the death toll from the rains has risen to four. The others died are Kara from Palakkad, Muthu, wife of Babu of Wayanad and Padmanabhan from Kannur. In the wake of heavy rains lashing the state, all sections of the Kerala police are engaged in rescue operations.

State police chief Lokanath Behera said police are providing speedy service to all those calling for rescue efforts. Ten relief camps have been opened in Kozhikode so far. 428 people from 127 families have sought refuge in these camps. The government had sounded red alert in Wayanad, Malappuram, Kozhikode and Idukki districts earlier.

Meantime, KSEB has warned the people to be cautious as there is a situation of power cables to collapse. They have asked people to inform if they find any broken lines and if posts fall down. The location should be accurate and asked people to use their customer care number.
