KASARGOD: It has been twenty-five years since the murder of Narayanan Nair shook the state. It is shocking to find that the police have not been able to solve the case even after all these years.

Around 8 officers have conducted the investigation, many including thieves, co-workers, political rivals, etc were questioned, yet the mystery remains unfolded. Narayanan Nair, who was also an active member of the CPI, was found dead in the morning on April 3, 1994. According to officials, the witness, who saw the body first, had seen some men escaping the scene but was not able to identify or even count their number. It was found out that the murderers had thrashed Narayanan's head with a steel rod.

However, the investigation conducted by Hosdurg CI KS Jayaprakash received criticism as there was no progress. The CPI began protesting against the officials and soon the case was handed over to the Crime Branch team led by Hakeem Batheri. Though initial findings suggested the involvement of some of Narayanan's friends, there was no solid evidence which proved their involvement. Following this, Hakeem backed out from the investigation.

The then UDF government then suggested CBI to take over the case. After investigating for about a year, the CBI too gave up citing lack of evidence. It must be seen whether the case which has reached its silver jubilee, will ever be solved.
