KOCHI: The Nedumbassery International Airport has been shut down till Sunday following unprecedented rains, informed airport authorities. There are reports that seven flights are stranded at the airport and that water has entered the runway. The airport will open only after the rain stops, informed CIAL. The flights will be diverted till then.

Meantime, train services have been disrupted after a tree falls on track in between Alappuzha and Cherthala. Guruvayur-Thiruvananthapuram Intercity, Bengaluru-Kochuveli trains have been diverted via Kottayam. The Ernad Express will operate service via Kottayam. Ernakulam-Alappuzha passenger and Alappuzha-Ernakulam passenger services have been suspended.

Many people are suspected to have trapped in the landslide that happened last night at Wayanad Meppadi Puthumala. A company of Territorial Army from Kannur has left for rescue operations. A house has been washed away at Nadukani in Malappuram and two women are reported missing. Hundreds of houses from different districts and almost thousand houses have been partially destroyed.

Extensive damages have been reported from Wayanad and Idukki districts. More than 5000 people from the state have been shifted to relief camps. A holiday has been declared for all educational institutions of the state.
