KOZHIKODE: Army has reached Kavalapara in Nilambur where extensive damages occurred in a landslide here. A search is going on after felling of trees and removal of earth. Rescue operators believe that the weather favourable will help them in intensifying search operations. Along with the army, national disaster response force, local and volunteer organisations are partaking in the search.
So far, nine bodies have been recovered from Kavalapara. There are also concerns about whether a rescue operation could be accomplished after a week's effort. A comprehensive security operation will be started under the leadership of the Army to bring out the 200 stranded at Vaniyambuzha.
The sky is clear Sunday morning at Wayanad where heavy rains caused extensive damages. Rescue operations will continue Sunday at Meppadi Puthumala where a landslide occurred. No continuous rain in Wayanad since Saturday night is a big relief for the rescue operators.
Red alert has been sounded in Wayanad, Kannur and Kasargod districts and orange alert in Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, and Kozhikode districts. Disaster management authority has asked all to be vigilant. Reports say rains will mitigate by Sunday.
