NEW DELHI: The national flag was hoisted at the Red Fort by PM Narendra Modi as part of the 73rd Independence Day of the nation. Modi also took the opportunity to brief the important decisions taken by his government while addressing the nation.
According to the Prime Minister, it was Sardar Vallabhai Patel's dream of 'United India' that got realised through the scrapping of Article 370. "In spite of being independent for more than 70 years, the people's long wait for a united nation was made possible by this government," said Modi. He added that the government will do everything it can to help those who are affected by the floods. The government's immediate goal is to bring back all those affected areas to normalcy. The PM also said that the government aims to eradicate poverty, uplift those who are marginalized and fulfil all its promises.
The PM also stated that the Muslim women in the country finally got justice through the triple talaq bill passed by his government. He said, "Triple talaq was like a sword against the Muslim women. It did not allow them to live freely. Though several Muslim nations had abolished it years before, India was not able to do so. If we were able to abolish sati, we should be able to abolish triple talaq too."
