THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The people of Kerala has proved that nothing is impossible by surviving the floods, said Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan during his Independence day speech. He also added that we can dedicate ourselves for a generation that does not fear and that hold their heads up. The CM also expressed confidence that the people of the state will overcome the ongoing floods by fighting together.

"We should not give up during any kinds of disaster. Our efforts are not just for ourselves but also for the upcoming generations. In spite of many differences, Independence has been able to instil a feeling of brotherhood among the people of the country and it is our great Constitution that made it possible. Hence, we must work to preserve the values of the constitution and this is my Independence day message. We must also try to correct ourselves if we committed any mistake in preserving those values," he said.

He also expressed his concern that secularism seems to be declining in the country. The people have to check whether they are approaching or moving away from socialism, he added. The CM also took a jibe at the central government by adding that if one tries to replace diversity with a unitary setup, then it can only be seen as a violation of constitutional principles.
