KOZHIKODE: A man was arrested in Thamarassery for giving triple talaq to his wife on Friday. This is the first arrest registered in the state ever since the central government passed the bill prohibiting triple talaq. EK Husam, who hails from Chullikaaparambathu, has been arrested as per the order of the Thamarassery court.

The complaint was filed by Husam's wife who accused him of giving her instant triple talaq without any prior notice. The woman also said that he was not ready to provide her any financial support after divorce. After hearing the woman's complaint, the court ordered to arrest Husam immediately. The woman later said that justice has been served through his arrest.

The triple talaq act or Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act was passed by the central government to ensure the protection of Muslim women's rights and their empowerment. According to the bill, the husband who practices triple talaq can receive up to 3 years of jail term.
