NEW DELHI: A Major General belonging to the Assam Rifles in the northeast was dismissed from the army after he was found guilty of raping a colleague. Indian Army Chief Bipin Rawat announced that Major General RS Jaswal of the Assam Rifles has been dismissed after Court Martial.

Army officials said, "Army Chief General Bipin Rawat has confirmed the sentence awarded to the officer. The decision of the Chief of Army Staff was intimated to the Major General by the 2 Corps Commander Lt Gen MJS Kahlon today in Ambala." The incident happened in 2016 when the Major General sexually harassed a Captain-rank lady officer. According to sources, the army court ordered the dismissal of the Major General without any pension after finding out that he was guilty of the crime. The order was later approved by the Army Chief.
