CHERTHALA: CPM local committee member Omanakuttan, who allegedly collected money from people in Cherthala flood relief camp, has been found to be innocent by the party in an investigation conducted by it. Following this, the party decided to revoke suspension against him. The case against him file by the police will also be withdrawn.
The people in the relief camp also submitted a memorandum to the chief minister, stating that they had no complaint against Omanakuttan. The party has come to understand that Omanakuttan’s intention was just to help the people in the camp. He also gave the explanation that he had collected money to take electricity connection for the camp from a nearby house and to transport essential commodities from SupplyCo to the camp.
The incident happened in Cherthala South panchayat sixth ward SC Community hall relief camp on Friday. It was Arthungal police who filed the case under non-bailable charges against Onamakuttan, who is Kurappumkulangara Local Committee member. The arrest was based on Tehsildar R Usha’s report to the district administration after the video of Omanakuttan taking money from people went viral.
About 411 members from 136 families of Ambedkar colony are residing in the camp. Omanakuttan is also a flood victim in the camp.
Yesterday, some people in the camp had also come out in support of Omanakuttan, saying that he had collected money not for his personal use but to help them get electricity and essential commodities.
