NEW DELHI: In surprise turn of events, former finance minister P Chidambaram was taken into custody a few minutes ago.

Earlier Chidambaram, who is facing arrest in INSX Media case, made an unexpected appearance at AICC office in New Delhi and held a press confidence, pleading that he is not guilty and many lies were being spread about him.

After the press conference, Chidambaram reached his house, reportedly saying that he would wait for ED and CBI officials.

Teams of CBI and ED soon rushed to Chidambaram's residence at Jor Bagh where Chidambaram had already arrived. Dramatic scenes unfolded at Chidambaram's residence in Jor Bagh as sleuths of the CBI, including the senior officers, jumped over the wall to get into his residence. Nearly 20 officials jumped over the wall as the gates had been closed and Congress workers were protesting against them.

Kapil Sibal and Abhishek Sanghvi are also reported to be with Chidambaram.

A large posse of police arrived at his house and shifted away protestors, clearing the road for taking him into its custody.
