NEW DELHI: Former finance minister P Chidambaram, arrested after a high drama in the INX Media corruption case, will be produced in the court this afternoon. Arrested from his residence at Jor Bagh, he was questioned at the CBI headquarters for nearly one and a half hours.
The first phase of interrogation ended at midnight yesterday. Meantime, he did not cooperate with the interrogation. He will be questioned again shortly and after that will be produced in the court.
The CBI will file a plea to get his custody for 14 days and to cancel his son Karti Chidambaram’s bail. The CBI will inform the court that Indrani Mukherjee, one of the main accused in the case, has given a statement against him.
The CBI had yesterday issued a look-out notice against him. Chidambaram had convened a press-meet soon after that. He told the media that there is no charge sheet against him and that he was not guilty and that many lies were being spread about him. Soon after the press meet, he left home. By 9 pm, the CBI and enforcement teams reached his house. As his house was found locked, they jumped the wall, got inside and arrested him.
Chidambaram's son, Karti Chidambaram, has been accused of illegally accepting foreign funds and is accused of accepting bribes as a reward.
