manju-warrier

P T Kunju Muhammed is a noted director, producer and socio-political activist. He debuted as a director in the film Magrib in 1999. After that he directed a handful of films such as Garshom, Paradeshi, and Viswasapoorvam Mansoor.

In Garshom, instead of Urvashi, Manju Warrier was supposed to be heroine. Kunju Muhammed has revealed the reason for Manju backing out from the film in an interview to a prominent media group.

“Much before Uravashi was called for the project, Manju was chosen as the heroine. A small advance was also given to her. Manju was also living near my house then. Even she had told me that she was interested to act in Garshom. But suddenly, she made a U-turn. Murlai was appearing as the hero and this was the main reason for the change in her decision. In the film Pathram, released in the same year, Murali had acted as Manju’s father. This was the reason why she felt some mental discomfort to act as Murali’s heroine. She had hinted this to me,” he said.

“But I informed her that I won’t remove Murali from the project and she could take her own decision. Later she decently gave back the advance without creating any fuss. Thus finally, it was Urvashi who appeared as the Garshom’s heroine,” Kunju Muhammed said.
