tax-evasion

KOCHI: The crime branch submitted a report after dismissing a case against actors Amala Paul and Fahadh Faasil on fabricating documents and using false addresses to register a luxury car in Puducherry in a bid to evade higher taxes in Kerala. The crime branch informed the court that a case cannot be taken against Amala Paul. The crime branch said the case against Amala does not exist in Kerala as the transaction took place outside Kerala.

The crime branch had found that actress Amala Paul registered her Benz Car using fabricated documents of her rented house at Thilasapetty in Puducherry. The crime branch had informed that a letter was given to Puducherry transport department seeking action against it. Actor Fahadh Faasil had paid the fine on registration. Meantime, action will continue against Suresh Gopi on tax evasion.

The crime branch submitted a report in the court claiming that Amala Paul had not brought the car bought from Puducherry to Kerala. Benz S Class car bought for Rs 1.12 crore was brought to Puducherry and registered. If the car was registered in Kerala, a tax of Rs 20 lakh would have to be paid. As tax is less in Puducherry, she had to pay only Rs 1.25 lakh.

To register a vehicle in Puducherry, one should be a permanent resident here. Amala Paul had registered her vehicle in the name of an engineering student unknown to her. Fake registration is a crime punishable upto seven years in prison. It was found that Amala and Fahadh had evaded tax of lakhs by registering vehicles in fake addresses.

An arrest was registered against Fahadh and Suresh Gopi on similar cases and both were later released on bail. Fahadh had given statement that he was not aware of things on tax and that dealers registered the car and brought to Kerala.
