THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Fort police took just 30 minutes to catch a man who snatched three-sovereign gold chain from a foot-traveller at Thakaraparambu near Overbridge here on Wednesday.
The robber, who took to heels after the robbery, had with him the stolen property at the time of his capture.
The arrested person has been identified as Robin, who is suspected to be an accused in a number of chain-snatching cases.
The incident happened at around 8 am and the ‘victim’ is a 60-yr-old woman.
He stalked her and committed the robbery at a desolate spot. The passers-by, who gathered around after hearing her cries, informed the police.
The police reached the spot, collected details about him (including the colour of his shirt) from the old woman and sent the message through WhatsApp to all police stations.
When police teams including Shadow police teams started conducting the search and he was caught from near SP Fort hospital by a police team with the help of locals.
Broken chain was also recovered from him. He was taken to the Fort Police station and he is being questioned in the presence of Fort CI. The police later filed a case based on the woman’s complaint.
