KOCHI: A court, on Wednesday, remanded in judicial custody two persons, who were earlier arrested by the Excise department for the possession of three-kilogram ganja.

Kakkanadu Kallukuzhikkal Ansar (41) aka Katalan Ansar and his accomplice Kakkanadu Navodaya junction resident Subash (35) were persons who were arrested.

The two accused used to travel different places and sell ganja to agents. The special squad of Excise department were able to arrest them based on the secret information they received.

Both the men were accused in a number of criminal cases. Ansar was the one who had been evading arrest and doing ganja business in Perumbavur.

The police also seized the car in which the accused had been travelling with the contraband. When the Excise Narcotics Squad intercepted their car at Cherukunnam near Odakkali, they veered off and went forward. Soon they got off the car and tried to run away but, the Excise team chased and caught them.

The modus operandi was the ganja would be bought from Tamil Nadu Kambam and brought to Madurai in bus. From there, the contraband would be transported to Aluva via train. From there, it will be taken in car for distribution among agents in various parts of the district.

The arrest was made possible by the secret inputs given by Narcotics Top Secret group under Deputy Excise Commissioner A S Ranjith.
The accused were caught by a team including Squad Circle Inspector B Suresh and Inspector Sreeraj.
