KOCHI: The police will seek the custody of two persons, who had allegedly started fake websites in the name of prominent mobile service providers and swindled lakhs of money.

The Cyber police arrested West Bengal Haldia natives Amitaba Malik (30) and his brother and Computer Science student Arunabha Malik (19) based on a complaint given by Ex-military person and Poochakkal native Praveen to Poochakkal police. The accused had duped Praveen into transferring them money to the tune of Rs 2,57,000.

The case was handed over to the cyber cell after the complaint was received. The accused were produced in Cherthala court and remanded in judicial custody.

Amitabh Malik was the creator of fake websites using which he extracted money from netizens.


The incidents related to the case took place on August 18 after Praveen came to realise that he had lost money from Aroor Mattancherry bank branches after a suspicious transaction.
