THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A decision has been taken to reinstate DGP Jacob Thomas into service. With the recommendation of taking him back into service, the additional chief secretary (home) handed over the file to the chief secretary. The Central Administrative Tribunal (CAT) had ordered to reinstate Thomas who was under suspension and had assigned him an appropriate post of equivalent rank. The government had decided not to move the court against the verdict.
The centre had the other day informed the state government that they cannot consider Thomas’ Voluntary Retirement Scheme (VRS). The additional chief secretary recommended to reinstate the officer following the verdict of CAT that Thomas, one of the senior officers of the DGP rank, could not be suspended for a long time. A final decision has to be taken by the chief minster on the file handed over to the chief secretary. He was under suspension for nearly 20 months.
