NEW DELHI: Former union minister Arif Mohammed Khan has been appointed as the Governor of Kerala. Khan is a native of Uttar Pradesh. Khan, who was in the congress earlier joined BJP in 2004. The new governor was appointed as present Governor P Sathasivam’s term ends on September 4. Khan had earlier quit the Rajiv Gandhi government over the Shah Bano case and has been cited many times by BJP in triple talaq debates. He has also supported the government on the Article 370 move. After being appointed as the new Kerala governor, Khan said, "It is an opportunity to serve. Fortunate to be born in a country like India which is so vast and rich in diversity. It is a great opportunity for me to know this part of India, which forms boundary of India and is called god's own country."

Tamil Nadu BJP chief Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan will be new governor of Telangana. Chosen as the party’s state vice president in 2010, she became the national secretary of the party in 2013. She is replacing ESL Narasimhan. Governors of five states were announced here today. Kalraj Mishra, the Governor of Himachal Pradesh, was on Sunday transferred and appointed as the Governor of Rajasthan by President Ram Nath Kovind. Mishra will replace Kalyan Singh as the Rajasthan governor.

Meanwhile, assuming Mishra’s role as Himachal governor is former Union minister Bandaru Dattatreya.

Bhagat Singh Koshyari has been appointed as the new Governor of Maharashtra. Koshyari will replace Vidyasagar Rao.
