THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A report of the independent commission chaired by Justice P K Shamsudeen said in addition to the University College, union offices in many colleges are functioning as torture rooms.
The complaints of unorganized students are not given due consideration. The report mentioned that the colleges have become riot centers with the support of top political leadership. The commission will hand over the report to the governor today.
The commission was formed when a student of the University College attempted suicide. The commission has mentioned the names of some colleges functioning as torture rooms. They are Thiruvananthapuram Govt Arts College, Ernakulam Maharajas College and Kozhikode Madapally College.
The students of many colleges run by the SFI are not even able to file complaints. The report pointed out that there is a situation where students are not allowed even to contest the union elections. The then governments of the time never opposed the violent attacks of their student organizations. This is one of the reasons for the increase in political tensions, the report said.
