THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The CBI probe found that the death of Sreejiv of Neyyattinkara, was not a custodial murder and that he committed suicide. They recovered a suicide note from the lodge he was staying in Attingal. They also found some evidences to prove that he committed suicide. The investigating report submitted the report to the CBI court in the capital city. The report recommended departmental action against the police who took him into custody. They have been charged for not conducting a physical examination when he was taken into custody.
25-year-old youth Sreejiv was taken into custody by the Parasala police on theft charges on May 19 in 2014. He was later taken to the hospital after he consumed poison in the lockup. The police the next day informed his family about his death. His family was first hesitant to complaint against the police but later lodged a complaint at the police complaint authority. The then chairman of the authority dismissed the version of the police that he consumed poison. The then Parasala sub inspector Gopakumar, ASI Philippose and two cops were found guilty. A compensation of Rs 10 lakh was given to his family and departmental action was ordered against the cops, but the government did not take any action against the police.
His brother Sreejith later staged a strike in front of the secretariat and this had gone viral in the social media. The government later handed over the case to the CBI. Sreejith is still on strike in front of the secretariat terming the investigation as ineffective. Sreejith, however, responded by saying that the CBI's findings are false and that he will approach the Supreme Court. The CBI team investigating the case refused to accept any scientific evidence he had. Will continue strike against this, he added.
