Malayalis cannot forget Malayalam’s own nightingale Chithra. Even after conquering great heights, she never lost her humility. It has been four decades since Chithra’s music started embracing Indian cinema. One instance in Chithra’s life, however, turned tragic for the singer and those who love her-unexpected demise of her daughter Nandana.

Recently in an interview to a magazine, Chithra has opened up about Nandana’s death and the divinity in it.

Chithra’s words:

There were a lot of divine moments in the walk and life of Nandana. When I addressed my sorrow in not having a child to Sathya Sai Baba, he said that I’ll be having a baby on the very next visit, which proved to be true. As per Bhagavatham, her soul left earth at an auspicious moment on April 14, 2011. It was a Vishu Sankranthi day. The day on which Lord Sree Krishna soul left his body. That too a demise in water.

Nandana was fond of songs in the album ‘Manchadi’. She urged me to play those songs and she was watching it when I went to take a bath. What could have led her to the swimming pool? I could only believe that it’s an act of some force that she left her favourite McDonald’s doll and slippers. How could Nandana open those big doors? The police found her footsteps near the swimming pool which they shot on camera. Or else me and Vijayan Chettan could have landed in jail as per the rule in Dubai. The police and forensics reached the spot soon. After her footsteps were caught on camera, it faded away. Is this something that’s possible as per human logic?
