THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: As expected, the Keralites broke their own record. There has been a record increase in the consumption of liquor in Kerala. 487 crore worth of liquor was sold from Bevco outlets in Kerala from September 3rd till Uthradam. Liquor for 457 crore was sold in the same period last year. There has been an increase of Rs 30 crore this time. Keralites bought liquor for 90.32 crores on the Uthradam day alone. BEVCO outlets did not function on the Thiruvonam day. This also reflected in the sales on the Uthradam day. However, all the bars were opened on the Thiruvonam day. The price of liquor increased after the introduction of flood cess.
