When former Thiruvananthapuram Collector Vasuki helmed the transportation of flood relief materials from the City to flood-affected districts during the last year’s flood, it was Thiruvananthapuram Mayor V K Prashanth who took up that responsibility this year.
He spent sleepless nights at the Corporation office coordinating and instructing hundreds of young volunteers who reached the collection points and corporation office to collect, sort and pack materials that was carted out one after the other to flood-affected areas.
In a recent interview to Kaumudy TV, on the occasion of Onam, Mayor Prasanth Bro says “the service done by the youths in Thiruvananthapuram was something that we won’t get even by spending even crores of rupees”.
He said that swarms of youths headed to the Corporation Office after watching his Facebook live. Thus we can see shying away from taking the full credit of the good job done, and on the other hand showing the courtesy to distribute the credit among all those who had lent a helping hand.
In another context, the Mayor shares another important information with the interviewer. He explains why there is no flooding in Thiruvananthapuram.
“Long before, even a light shower brought flood-like situation in Thiruvananthapuram. But today that is not there. One reason is alertness being shown in disposing the waste and timely clearing maintenance of water drainage system.
Operation Anantha was very much instrumental in controlling the flood. Those who speak about the cleanliness of roads in Singapore and other foreign countries should be careful enough not to drop even a sweet cover on roads,” he says.
