THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A bunch of environmentalists have said that migration of peacocks from forests to human habitats was a sign of impending disaster.

Usually peacocks come out of forests during the interval after a heavy rain. Peacocks visiting eastern hilly regions of Thiruvananthapuram district is a common sight.

Despite peacocks providing wonderful spectacles to human eyes, some people complain that the peacocks are destroying their crops and gardens. “Sometimes the beautiful birds gather at a place and refuse to return to forest, though we try to hound them away,” they say.

Meanwhile, environmentalists maintains that peacocks are migrating to human habitats due to destruction of forests.

There were woods and paddy fields in areas were these peacocks were spotted. It is said that overgrowth of woods and softening of soil also attract peacocks.
