KOCHI: The deadline for evacuation notice served by the Maradu municipality on the residents will expire today. The municipality will go into action as per the government directive. The owners are hoping the governor will intervene on the issue. Various political parties had come forward on Saturday supporting the strike.

The notice of the municipality says that if they does not evacuate, the secretary will use other powers vested in him without any warning. According to the notice issued on September 10, the deadline for the evacuation was till Saturday. However, the deadline was extended to Sunday as the date issued for the notice has ended.

Only Kayaloram flat owners have replied to the notice of the municipality. The reply was that the notice was a violation of their fundamental right to live and will not evacuate in anyway. They are planning to move the court against the notice.

Opposition leader Ramesh Chennithala, CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan and many others visited the flats yesterday. Chennithala asked the government to seek permission to submit a new report on the issue. Kodiyeri said the strike has the full support of the party.
