NEW DELHI: According to latest reports, the election commission will make a decision regarding the national party status of CPI and other parties after the assembly elections in 3 states. The commission said that elections will soon take place in Maharashtra, Jharkhand and Haryana following which fates of several parties will be decided.

As per reports. the election commission has been pondering about the national party status of CPI, Trinamool Congress and NCP since their dismal performance in this year's Lok Sabhas elections. According to the commission, in order to be recognised as a national party, a party needs to maintain state party status in at least four states. Therefore, one will have to wait for the election results in the three states to see whether the parties can maintain the state party status there. As of now, CPI has a state party status in three states including Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Manipur.
