KOLLAM: Police allegedly went on rampage during a midnight raid on Tuesday in the house of a person accused of manhandling a government doctor at Pallickal.
According to sources, the police excesses continued for three consecutive days, starting Tuesday midnight. On that day the house woman, who is a cancer patient collapsed. She, who belongs to a backward community, is still under treatment in a private hospital in Kollam.
Finally, the irate family members shot the video of the police action and handed it over to the media. It was after that the incident was known to the outside world.
The incident happened at the house in Kollam, Paravur, where there were only women and children. In the video police can be seen threatening the women and getting ready to take them into custody, that too, in the absence of women police officers.
A police man can also be seen trying to grab the hand of a woman who tries shoot the police action on her mobile phone. As per the law, the police are not supposed to take women into custody during anytime between dusk and dawn. However, under unavoidable circumstances, Magistrate’s permission is needed for their police custody or arrest.
The police had carried out the house of Sugatha kumar’s daughter. He is accused of assaulting the doctor of Pallickal primary health centre.
The basis of the case is Sugatha Kumar’s argument with the doctor, who allegedly denied treatment to his wife, who is a cancer patient.
Meanwhile, Sugatha kumar and son have gone into hiding and are trying to get bail.
