THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Unconfirmed reports say Kummanam Rajashekaran may contest as a BJP candidate in the Vattiyoorkavu bypolls. The district leadership wants him to contest the polls and had informed their stand to Kummanam.
Reports say neither Kummanam nor the RSS leadership have any interest in contesting from Vattiyoorkavu. However, the district leadership met him yesterday and requested him to contest. Kummanam who met the media later said that he will work as per the decision of the leadership.
BJP core committee is being convened in Kochi today. State chief Sreedharan Pillai said that he will inform the core committee that the district leadership had proposed Kummanam’s name. Other names will be considered only if Kummanam is adamant about not contesting. The other names considered are that of district president S Suresh and state executive member V V Rajesh.
Reports say that RSS leadership was of the stand that Kummanam need not contest when the election-related talks started. Kummanam Rajasekharan lost the Thiruvananthapuram Lok Sabha seat for more than one lakh votes last time. Kummanam was defeated by so much votes when Rajagopal contested from Thiruvananthapuram he lost for only 15,000 votes. The RSS's stand was in this situation.
A decision will be taken on the LDF candidate in Vattiyoorkavu at the state secretariat to be convened on September 24. CPM leaders V Sivankutty, K S Sunil Kumar and mayor V K Prashanth’s names are heard.
There are almost ten from the congress in the fray. The names of former MLAs K Mohankumar, N Peethambara Kurup, P C Vishnunath and some youth leaders are also considered.
