KOCHI: In an affidavit submitted by the Vigilance in the high court in connection with Palarivattom flyover corruption case, it has said that the allegation made by former Public Works Secretary T O Sooraj against former Public Works minister V K Ebrahin Kunju is wrong.
Sooraj’s main allegation was that he had made advance payment of money to contractors as told by Ebrahim Kunju. The advance payment of Rs 8.25 crore was made to construction company RDS. The Vigilance also told the court that the allegation that the former minister had asked Sooraj to give money without interest is also false.
“It was Sooraj who had decided on the interest and the then minister had neither asked him to take the interest nor not take it,” the Vigilance clarified.
The Vigilance said that Sooraj decided to give the money at an interest of 7 pc after borrowing money from public sector units at
11-14 pc interests.
However, the Vigilance, clarified that it was trying to find out whether the minister had any role in the corruption in the construction of the flyover.
The cornerstone for the flyover was laid in 2014 when Oommen Chandy was the chief minister.
