THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Since the Supreme Court has come down heavily on the state government for not carrying out its order regarding the demolition of Maradu flats, it is believed that several other buildings across the state might soon have to face similar action for violating the Coastal Regulations Zone.

It is learnt that the government has considered the issue in a recent meeting. According to a report submitted by Chief Secretary Tom Jose, around 1800 buildings might have to face demolition in the near future. In the wake of the Supreme Court order, the government is expected to take serious action regarding this matter.

Meanwhile, the government has stated that it would not issue compensation to the residents of Maradu flat. It also said that the environment ministry would prepare a master plan for constructional works in the state on the basis of Coastal Regulation Zone.
