THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Latest reports suggest that the Congress leadership is considering to field K Mohankumar, former DCC President and Human Rights Commission member, in the Vattiyoorkavu constituency for the upcoming by-poll. The leadership is currently holding talks regarding the matter.
Earlier, several Congress members had staged protest against the move to field N Peethambara Kurup in the constituency. Meanwhile, K Muraleedharan MP, who initially opposed Mohankumar, has apparently changed his stance. According to him, the victory is ensured for UDF in Vattiyoorkavu, irrespective of its candidate. K Mohankumar has also hinted that it is time for him to make a comeback into active politics.
At the same time, the party is yet to reach a decision regarding its candidates in the rest of the constituencies. In Konni, while the DCC has demanded to field a member from the Ezhava community, Adoor Prakash MP has suggested naming Robin Peter as the party candidate. However, the situation turned unfavourable for Robin Peter as senior leader PJ Kurian advocated to nominate Mohanraj as an attempt to maintain communal equilibrium in the party. It is learnt that a final decision regarding this will be made by the high command.
On the other hand, Congress is facing a similar confusion in Ernakulam too as KV Thomas attempts to get hold of the seat despite the leadership's decision to field TJ Vinod.
