KOCHI: The flat owners in Maradu has sent a letter to the govt seeking more time to vacate the flats. They requested to restore the power supply and provide compensation as soon as possible. In light of SC verdict to compensate flat owners, they are ready to vacate under some conditions.
The conditions put forward were to give the temporary compensation of Rs 25 lakhs, a place to stay with similar amenities like their present residence and to restore electricity and water supply to the flats till they vacate.
Meanwhile, the administration panel in Maradu municipality came to the fore against the new secretary assigned by the govt in relation to the demolition of flats. A letter has been sent to the govt citing that the IAS officer assigned is not doing his duty. The municipality also requested to give the duty to someone else. The officer was assigned solely for demolition through special order as SC toughened its stand on the demolition of Maradu flats.
A Supreme Court bench presided by judge Arun Misra ordered the state govt to pay ad hoc compensation of Rs. 25 lakh within 4 weeks. The court also ordered Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan's government to pay the compensation and recover the cost from the builder. A panel that includes Retd. High Court judge has been assigned to evaluate the price of flats to decide on full compensation.
