NEW DELHI: SC has formed the panel to decide compensation for the owner of the Maradu flats that are scheduled to be demolished. The panel will be presided by Retd. HC Judge K. Balakrishnan Nair. The judge’s name was nominated by the state government was accepted by the Supreme Court.
A Supreme Court bench presided by judge Arun Misra had ordered the state govt to pay ad hoc compensation of Rs. 25 lakh within 4 weeks. The court also ordered Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan's government to pay the compensation and recover the cost from the builder.
A notice was sent to the builders and promoters as well. The asset details of builders and partners were also sought. The government will have the authority to attach the assets. The involvement of officials to give building permit in Coastal Regulation Zone will also be investigated.
