CHENNAI: Supreme Court Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi has ordered the CBI to conduct investigation against former Madras High Court Chief Justice VK Tahilramani. The order was made on the basis of a report submitted by the intelligence bureau. Following the order, the CBI officials will examine the money transactions and account details of Tahilramani.
As per the intelligence report, there are certain irregularities in the purchase of two luxury flats worth Rs 4 crore in Chennai. The report states that apart from Rs 1.62 crore which she received as loan from HDFC bank, Justice Tahilramani has paid another Rs 1.56 crores to the builders which suggests of illegal assets earning. The report also suggested that the former Chief Justice and her relatives shared good relationship with several ministers of Tamil Nadu. The CBI will investigate whether Tahilramani had secured the money as a reward for favouring the minsters in various cases.
Justice Tahilramani had handed over her resignation letter after she was transferred as the Chief Justice of Meghalaya.
