KANNUR: Revoking the CBI FIR on Periya double murder case, the High Court has ordered for a CBI probe. The court observed serious faults in the police investigation and criticized the police for considering the statement of the first accused as a holy statement. The court also mentioned the involvement of CPI (M) leaders in the case which is the cause of lapses in the investigation. The court also laid blame on the police for not taking the statement that the accused went to party office after committing murder seriously.

Crime Branch told the High Court there was no proof regarding the involvement of top CPI (M) leaders, like former MLA K.V. Kunjiraman or CPI (M) leader V.P.P. Musthafa, in the murder. The explanation was made by Crime Branch DySP on the CBI investigation plea submitted by the family members of murdered Congress activists Kripesh and Sarathlal.

The court dismissed Crime Branch’s claims that there is no politics for the agency and no leniency were shown towards CPI (M).

Congress activists Kripesh and Sarathlal were hacked to death on February 17, 2019.
