KOCHI: The deadline for residents to vacate from Maradu flats ordered by the Supreme Court to be razed, will end today. Power and water supplies to the flats will be disconnected this evening. However, the residents are seeking more time to vacate.

The state government had informed the Supreme Court that as per the action plan the residents will be evicted from the flats on October 3. In this context, the district administration has made it clear that more time cannot be given and asked them to leave today itself.

The flat owners have demanded an accommodation with the same amenities as the present flats. However, the district administration is of the view that the list of rented accommodation can only be given to the flat owners and that rehabilitation is practically impossible. The district administration is of the stand that the owners of the flat should find accommodation for themselves.

Sub collector Snehil Kumar Singh and Maradu municipality secretary M Muhammed Arif Khan had the other day spoken to the residents of Holy Faith H20 and Alfa Serin. The flat owners had sought 15 more days’ time to vacate the flats. The flat owners sought accommodation for those leaving the flat and requested not to disconnect power and water supply lines for 15 days.

The flat owners said the government had not taken any steps to provide them temporary accommodation as promised. It is difficult to find a house or a flat in a short period of time. That is why they are demanding an additional 15 days’ time.
