KOCHI: The state government told the HC that it has submitted a FIR at Perumbavoor Judicial First Class Magistrate with actor Mohanlal as the first accused for illegally possessing elephant tusk.
There were petitions filed by persons including Aluva Udyogamandal native Poulose questioning the sanction given by the Forest Department to Mohanlal to possess the tusk. The petitions will be again considered on October 15.
In the FIR it is said that the tusk was given to Mohanlal by other accused-Thrissur native P.N. Krishnakumar and Chennai native Nalini Radhakrishnan.
Elephant tusks were recovered from Mohanlal’s residence in a raid conducted by Income Tax Department in 2011. Out of the four tusks that were found, two were sponsored to the actor’s art gallery at home by P.N. Krishnakumar in 1988. The other tusks were bought by Krishnakumar from Nalini which was later handed over to Mohanlal. In the FIR, it is said that permit was not sought from the Forest Department to move the tusk from the residence in Thiruvananthapuram to Kochi. While the investigation of the case registered on 21st December 2011 was ongoing, the Forest Department gave the permit to possess the tusk. So, FIR wasn’t given. This action was later questioned Poulose and others at the HC.
