KOLLAM: In a recent development, the post mortem report of four-year-old girl Diya revealed that her death was not the result of physical assault by her mother. According to the report, the girl died of pneumonia and meningitis.

Earlier, it was reported that several bruises were found on Diya's body which suggested an assault. On further questioning, Diya's mother revealed that she had beaten her as she refused to eat food. Following this, police had been closely observing the mother as they suspected that it was the assault that led to the child's death.

The child was initially brought to Parippally Medical College in a critical condition. However, her condition worsened and she was soon transferred to Thiruvananthapuram Medical college where she breathed her last.

Parippally CI Rajesh said that the parents will be served a notice as per Juvenile justice. It is learnt that the Child Rights department will file a case against the mother for torturing the child. The body of the child has been handed over to the relatives.
