CHENNAI: The central government on Friday blamed Pakistan over the GoBackModi campaign in social media against Prime Minister Modi. The hashtag #gobackmodi trended on social media ahead of today's informal meet between Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping.

According to sources, most of these campaigns originated from Pakistan as an attempt to tarnish the image of Indian Prime Minister, a report said.

Earlier, almost 25 Twitter accounts from Pakistan had initiated similar hashtags after the central government revoked the special status of Jammu and Kashmir. Several regional parties in Tamil Nadu including the DMK had also initiated a protest against PM Modi's visit to the state capital.
