ISTANBUL: Over the years, India has been maintaining a good relationship with Turkey. However, it seems that Turkey is preferring Pakistan over India which was evident from the former's support to Pakistan over the Kashmir issue.

It is a known fact that India values its friendship with Turkey as Turkey lies in a tactical part of the world. But with Turkey criticizing India's action in Kashmir at the UN, the relationship seems to be hitting a new low.

Despite the Kashmir issue being India's internal matter, Turkey extended support to Pakistan without even considering what India has to say about it. This action by Turkey has hurt India and as a result, the country is being forced to take strong measures against Turkey without even considering their past friendship. India's first such measure was the withdrawal from a deal worth Rs 10000 crore made with Turkey.

It must be noted that India has always kept itself away from issuing remarks about internal matters of other countries. However, the situation might soon turn bitter for the two countries as reports suggest that India is about to change this stand on Turkey by issuing statements about its internal matters.

India has already criticized Turkey for launching an airstrike against Syria. In a statement, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said, "We are deeply concerned at the unilateral military offensive by Turkey in north-east Syria." The remark came soon after Turkey's fighter jets launched attacks on the northeastern parts of Syria. Meanwhile, the US too has come up criticizing turkey over its action against Syria.
