KOCHI: The Crime Branch has taken into custody three persons including the owner of the construction company that had built four flats at Maradu in violation of Coastal Zone Regulations.

The three persons in custody are former Maradu Panchayat Secretary Muhammad Ashraf, former Junior Supt P E Joseph and Holy Faith Construction Company owner Sani Francis. They have been taken into custody under The Prevention of Corruption Act 1988.

They have been charged with offences such as conspiracy and breach of trust. According to reports, their arrest may be recorded after their interrogation.

The Crime branch had also sought the mandatory permission of the government for conducting probe against a government official.

The action is based on a petition filed in the Moovattupuzha Vigilance court, seeking investigation against persons who pulled strings to get permission for building flats unlawfully.

The Supreme Court had on May 8 ordered the demolition of flats - Holiday Heritage, Holy Faith, Jane Housing, Kayaloram Apartment and Alfa Ventures within one month and submission of its report.
