THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Academic council on 26th of October will decide on the recommendation to give five marks extra moderation to students of the technical university who fails in one subject in a semester. This moderation is additional to the current moderation. This is done to avoid any possible loss in campus placement, it is said.

The technical university is set to implement special moderation on the back of a controversy involving minister K.T. Jaleel’s private secretary when a five mark special moderation was granted in File Adalat. At Kerala and Kozhikode Universities, there is a moderation of five to eight percentage currently. The technical university has recommended to the academic council to make similar policies.

Campus Placement

In the technical university, there’ll be only under 500 students who’ll fail for one subject in a semester. The crucial semesters would be six, seven and eight. Companies will make placement on the basis of the performance up to the fifth semester. Those who have won in all subjects will receive an offer letter as soon as the course is completed. For those who fail in one subject alone will face the scenario of losing the campus placement secured earlier. It’ll take a year to write an exam and pass in the failed subject. The university authorities said that such complaints have increased and special moderation is granted to those who’ll eventually lose another year by a small margin of marks. Every student will get the moderation granted by the Pass Board while the special moderation will only be for those who fail in one subject alone.
