THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In a scathing attack on the NSS, BJP leader O Rajagopal MLA accused them for their open campaign seeking votes for the UDF candidates in Vattiyoorkavu and Konni. It is illegal on the side of caste and religious organizations to seek votes for just a party and they don’t have the right for it, he told a private channel.
He said, “The stand taken by the NSS is not only in Vattiyoorkavu. It is their stand in the state as a whole. We agree with the statement made by Chief Election Officer Tikaram Meena in this regard. That's the rule. Caste and religious organizations calling to vote for a party is not fair. It is also illegal. The chief election officer has unequivocally stated that.”
A person can work for anybody, but community organizations are not like that. They have their own role. They have no right to say to vote for a political party, he said. Meantime, CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan said that he will lodge a complaint to the election commission against seeking votes in the name of castes. Chief electoral officer Tikaram Meena had the other day mentioned that if he receives any complaint on it, action will be taken after examining it.
