THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Rajan Gurkkal, the vice president of Kerala State Higher Education Council, has stated that the syndicate has no right to interfere in any matters relating to the exam results once after the publishing of the results. Even the council which conducts the exams does not have the right to interfere in the results, he said. While demanding the cancellation of the unlawful decisions taken by the MG and technical universities, Gurkkal added that minister KT Jaleel is being unnecessarily dragged into the controversy despite being innocent in the issue.

"Once the exam results are out, the syndicate cannot give any moderation. As per law, it is the controller of examination who is responsible for conducting the exams and no one else the power to interfere in it. Universities have the right to conduct adalats to sort out the problems of students. However, the participation of the minister's personal staff in such an adalat is against the law. It is the vice-chancellor who has the right to conduct adalat," he said.

As per law, the higher education minister, who is the pro-chancellor, cannot interfere in the constitutional powers and rights of the university. Apart from participating in the degree awarding ceremony as a guest, the minister does not enjoy any other privileges, Gurkkal added.

Rajan Gurukkal is often regarded as a person who has immense experience in the field of Higher education in the state. These statements made by a person of his credibility has put the government on the defensive.
