EDAPPALLY: Youth killed his parents in broad daylight with a hammer. Shamsu (65-retd. Port Trust Employee) of Azheekal Kadavu House in Ernakulam Elamakkara Subhash Nagar Anchanappally Lane and his wife Saraswathi (57) are the deceased. Their son Sanal (30) was arrested by Elamakkara police. The incident was at 9:30 am.
Sanal admitted the murder to the police without any guilt. The police said he was under treatment for a mental disorder. Injuries were found on the bodies. Hammer, knife and hacksaw blade were found near the dead body. Saraswathy was still holding Sanal’s medications in her palm. Assistant Commissioner V.K. Raju said the cause of death can only be clarified after post-mortem. The locals saw Shamsu returning home after a morning walk. Neighbours on hearing some noise went to their house, but Sanal turned them back. By 11 am, there wasn’t any noise, and as the neighbours found Shamsu and his wife Saraswathi in a pool of blood in the first floor. At this time, Sanal was sitting with a stone-cold attitude downstairs.
Elamakkara police reached the spot after the neighbours informed. Both had died by then. The accused was arrested by the police. The locals said that Sanal was under treatment at a private hospital for many years. He never showed aggressiveness. As per the primary assumption, blow to the head is the cause of the deaths. The dead bodies have been shifted to Ernakulam General Hospital. They also have a daughter who is married.
