KOCHI: The Kerala High Court came down heavily on Kochi Corporation in the wake of the waterlogging in the city following heavy rains. Expressing concern on it, the court asked what steps the corporation took to prevent it. The court congratulated the chief minister and the government for their intervention in it.
What did the corporation do to prevent it, the collector came to the scene because the chief minister intervened. If not, what would have been the state of the city, asked the court?
Meanwhile, the court rejected Kochi Mayor Soumini Jain's response that waterlogging was due to tides. This kind of responses are totally baseless, the court said. The court asked whether the corporation saw waterlogging stopped after disruptions in the gutters were removed.
The court spoke for the public. There is no need to raise unnecessary controversies on it. To coordinate prevention of flooding, why don’t you form a mission team led by district collector, the court asked.
The court had directed the advocate general to give a detailed report on the things that can be done to prevent waterlogging in Kochi. The court showered criticism against the corporation on the report submitted this morning. Advocate general assured the court on behalf of the government that there will be an immediate solution to waterlogging.
The court had harshly criticized Kochi Corporation yesterday for waterlogging in the city. They were criticized today also.
