KOCHI: As the waterlogging problem is continuing to be a big threat during rain in Kochi, actor Vinayakan came up lashing out against Kochi corporation for failing to solve the issue. According to him, it is high time to dissolve the Kochi corporation as its officials are only interested in looting money through corruption. He also criticized the authorities for failing to protect the Kochi lake.
"The Kochi lake which used to be so wide has become very narrow now. This is due to the illegal constructions which are aided by the authorities. I can't understand why city planning is not taking place properly despite having a corporation as well as the GCDA. Though uneducated people like myself are able to understand the importance of protecting nature, these educated officials in the corporation fail to understand it," he said. He also added that several people including some of his relatives are forced to live on marshlands. "These marshy areas were once areas through which small streams used to flow. What happened to those streams remain to be a mystery," he said.
The only way to save Kochi is by the elimination of corruption at government offices. "Officials are looting money in the name of development. In my opinion, the building called GCDA must be demolished," he added.
