PERUNNA: The allegation that the NSS sought votes for the UDF using their community influence is totally baseless, said its general secretary G Sukumaran Nair. Taluk union office members acted according to their opinion. Meantime, whatever the outcome of the by-election be, time will prove that the right distance they have taken is correct, he said.
Widespread criticisms were showered on the NSS for taking a favourable stand towards the UDF in the assembly by-polls soon after the results were out. Nair's response was in this situation.
The NSS decided to give up the equidistant stand and adopt righteous stand as its protest against the tirade of the central and state governments against the organisation. This included the matters relating to faith and denial of government assistance to the economically backward sections among the upper castes, and several other things.
